This and that.

This morning I decided to do some reading for pleasure. At the moment I am reading 'London, the novel' by Edward Rutherfurd. It is a dramatised history of London from Celtic times. While reading fiction you also pick up pieces of information about London, well known people and other general information. Did you know for example that the days of the week in English come from Norse origin? Tuesday - Tiw's day (Tiw, god of battle and victory), Wednesday - Woden's day (Woden/Odin, father and ruler of the gods and mortels, god of war, learning poetry and the dead), Thursday - Thor's day (Thor, god of thunder and the sky, and good crops; son of Odin and Frigg)  and Friday - Frigg's day (Frigg, wife of Odin, great mother of the gods, goddess of married love).

Well, today I have been reading about William the Conqueror and the building of the Tower of London. I also found out that his son, William II, (1087-1100) was gay! Well this sent me off to the realms of the internet to find out more about him and about other gay monarchs! (Life is so interesting!)

Research on the net, just like looking things up in encyclopaedias, take  you from one subject to the next, so I have found out about 'porphyria' as this is what George III is thought to have suffered from. At the end of my research I had completely forgotten what the origin of my research was as I had ended up becoming a member of Vimeo.com, which is a site where you can upload your movies!!

So my question was, before beginning my blog today, 'Is spending time on the internet a waste of time'? My answer is that I think not but it is time consuming.

By the way here are some pictures of William II and the Tower of London.

And of course, speaking of William we can't forget the big day tomorrow: The Royal Wedding! William and Kate, so here they are.
