On April 1st, yes, April fool's day, I began a new era of my life: retirement. I suppose the major problem here was that Covid 19 had started and although I had planned a number of trips in Europe, this had to be put off due to 'confinement' in France and around the world.
This time wasn't too bad, despite my not being able to take my trips, as everyone was affected by this so friends and family were tweeting and getting in contact via FaceTime and Whatsapp. It was at the end of the confinement in May, that the enormity of retirement effected me. I suddenly found myself alone. The French government had relaxed the rules of movement and although we didn't need an 'attestation de déplacement' for around the home, one was needed to travel distances of more than 100kms. Wills, Kat and the family were 147kms away. Anyway I got my attestation and went to see them which was great. Then on my return home, I felt isolated again.
I live in a hilly area, le Haut Beaujolais, and had been considering buying an e-bike for some time but this isolation motivated me to buy my e-bike. Not the one I had hoped for, but one with the motor on the back wheel and which was less expensive. Since I have had my e-bike my morale has shot up as I have been out and around.
Today I am in Switzerland and will be taking the bike out again. Life has changed but I still need to be more and more positive about retirement!
